Carnival in Tenerife 2009

Widely considered to be one the biggest and best carnivals in the world, second only to Rio De Janiero, Santa Cruz plays host to Tenerife Carnival - each year a different theme is chosen. For around 2 weeks every February the streets of Santa Cruz are filled with beautiful girls, amazing costumes, dancing and singing. The carnival starts with the election of the Carnival Queen and ends with the burial of the sardine.

For 2009's carnival in Tenerife the events are::

18th February: Gala for the election the Tenerife carnival queens.

20th February: Proclamatory Parade.

24th February: "Coso" The apotheosis of Carnival (16:00 hrs.) + Firework display.

25th February: Burial of the Sardine.

1st March: Piñata Sunday + end of 2009 Tenerife Carnival, includes another large firework display.
